ree

Pelangi Forum 2025, a platform for exchanging knowledge and perspectives for education personnel, was held under the topic “Life Skills for a Sustainable Future: Innovative Teaching” on 29 November 2025. The objective of this year’s forum is to find solutions to the challenge “How to teach learners to have skills that can be applied throughout their lives”.

The event started when Mr. Akarapol Wattanasin, Director of Pelangi Publishing (Thailand) Co., Ltd., delivered an inspirational opening speech with an emphasis on the power of “teachers’ hearts” that play a major role in preparing learners for the future. Pelangi Publishing, as a partner of educational institutions, has strived towards the same goal as teachers in building a sustainable future for learners.

The forum was attended by four distinguished speakers – an education expert, an expert in learning product and media development, a specialist in learning technology, and a learning content creator on online platforms – who shared their perspectives on innovative teaching.

Mr. Norazmir Mustapha, Senior Product Development and Marketing Manager of Pelangi Publishing Group Bhd., emphasised the importance of connection between classrooms and real world that no matter what topics are taught in classrooms, they should be based on learners’ experiences. He also gave some examples that in Malaysia, teachers apply public places such as beaches, migratory birdwatching locations, firefly watching locations and areas full of ants and butterflies as learning resources which help learners clearly see the connection between knowledge in classrooms and outside world.

Ms. Watcharaporn Donsang, CodeKids Founder & CEO and Committee of Thai Programmer Association, revealed that when technology is connected to the concept of sustainability such as energy saving, environmental conservation, and application of AI on data collection, learners will have a clear picture of what they can do to make an impact for the world, and understand that technology is not just skills, but also a tool for change.

Ms. Piyanuch Muedkerd, an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prince of Songkla University and a TikTok influencer from “Learn English with Jubjang” channel with over 100,000 followers shared her hands-on English learning experience that formerly the schemes of learning English language in Thai schools were the same which could not respond to specific needs of each individual learner. When she was young, she did not enjoy learning English until she had a goal in life that had driven her to learn English by herself through digital media, including YouTube channels, songs for kids and storybooks. She found that it was not difficult as she thought. She also suggested that we should start from our level of language proficiency and develop step-by-step from that level. From the person who did not like learning English, Ms. Piyanuch is now a content creator in learning English in a new way.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Porntip Siripatrachai, an independent scholar with long-accumulated experience in teaching primary students to undergraduate students, shared her view that true teaching innovations have been developed from teachers who turn the curriculum which is like a bible into practical practices in their classrooms. Additionally, teachers should realise children’s development, ever-changing world, and proper learning ambience. Teachers cannot merely follow the curriculum but rather being a learning designer for their learners. This is because there is no one who knows the school and learner contexts better than them. In addition, modern techniques of teaching are required to be integrated with theories, practices and innovations.

The seminar in Room 1 was held under the topic “Empowering Classrooms: Teaching Science and Math for a Sustainable Future” led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Porntip Siripatrachai. The seminar started with “Must choose” activity that simulated situations in classrooms. The participants were required to choose one situation and shared their reasons why they chose that situation, which depended on individuals’ perspectives. Besides, the participants jointly designed and created their prototypes by integrating maths and science knowledge into their works that are linked to real-life situations. This activity is a sample of activity management in classrooms that teachers can apply to their own class.

The seminar in Room 2 was organised under the topic “Innovating Primary English Classrooms for a Sustainable Tomorrow” led by Ms. Nele Noe, an education consultant with over 25 years of teaching experience. The activities are conducted with the aim of promoting participants to gain a deeper understanding of innovative, learner-centred classroom practices that integrate sustainability themes and how to implement them. During the activities, the participants shared their ideas, exchanged views, and presented how they would integrate sustainability themes into language teaching and learning development, which is considered useful and practical for classrooms.

The seminar in Room 3 was held under the topic “The Power of Stories: Building Life Skills for a Sustainable Future”.

In the first session, Dr. Khattiyada Chaiyo shared knowledge and led the participants carry out some activities on the sub-topics ‘The Power of Stories and Children’s Learning’ and ‘The Reggio Emilia Approach’, coupled with the Story Map activity (based on the “Little Tapir Knows All” storybook), Dialogic Storytelling (the concept of conversational storytelling), and the Story Theater (storytelling through drama).

In the later session, the distinguished speakers, who were representatives from three schools, honourably shared their Best Practice on using stories as a tool to solve problems for preschoolers.

Ms. Inchalita Pitipanlert, Manager of Ayutthaya Lab School, shared her school’s Best Practice under the title “Vowel Sound Stories: From Pronunciation to Life Skills and Creativity,” using the storybooks “Fun Articulation of Thai Vowels” series together with a three-week integrated activity plan.
